|  Corfu is the second largest island of the Eptanissa (the seven islands).
			Elegant architecture, sun beaches, nightlife and fine cuisine all contribute to
			attracting visitors from all over the world. You will find ancient Greek and
			Roman remains, old churches, museums, medieval villages and of course the
			Venetian forts. Its crystal waters, picturesque bays, the sandy or rocky beaches
			and the lush vegetation entice you to wander further. Corfu enjoys a typical
			Mediterranean climate, with summers that are hot and dry, while winters are mild
			and wet with the average temperature around 10 degrees Celsius. Spring comes to
			the island in February, and weather warm enough for swimming continues until
			early November. The exquisite island of ancient Pheakon entirely meets the
			desires and the needs of even the most demanding visitor. The islands size
			permits its visitors to choose the most suitable spot for a holiday. 
 Sightseeing
  
  Corfu town - Sightseeing Corfu Town is a principal port and the largest
			town in the Ionian Islands. One of the most beautiful walks in the town is
			around the Esplanade, the second largest square in Europe, which is the hurt of
			Corfu town. The 3 major historical periods of Corfu can be distinguished: in the
			old fort the Venetian, in Liston arcade the French and in the Palace, the
			English. On the upper side of Esplanade stands a memorial to the British Lord
			High Commissioner Sir Thomas Maitland, built in 1816 in the shape of a circular
			building with Ionian columns. The statue of John Capodistrias (the first
			president of Greece) stands near the Maitlands monument and right in front of
			the building where the Ionian Academy was housed. Opposite the Liston is the Old
			Fortress, the best known of the Venetian citadels. At the northern end of
			Esplanade stands the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, one of the most
			elegant buildings in Corfu. Take some time to explore the island; the scenery
			that any destination offers will amaze you. Kanoni: A small peninsula in front of the lagoon of Halikiopoulou
			and the airport. You can enjoy the unique view that lies in front of you.
 Pontikonissi: The emblem of Corfu, the island of the Dead where church of
			Pantokratora built on 11th or
  12th century is situated. Mon Repos: The summer residence of the High Commissioner Sir Frederic Adam
			and later of the Greek royal family.
 Benitses: is a busy fishing village with long beaches, tourist shops,
			restaurants and everything you could ask during your holidays. Dont miss to
			see the ruins of the Roman baths with mosaic floors.
 Palaiokastritsa: Second to Corfu Town, located in the west side of
			the island. Traditional places here the palace of King Alkinoos, father of
			Nausica. In Palaiokastrista there are five natural bays formed between the rocks
			and the twist and turn road. At the top of the hill you can see the monastery of
			the Panagia tis Paleokastritsas, from where the view is incredible. Pelekas:
			Built on the top of a hill, which is famous for its unique sunset. The painted
			houses in different colours give to the village a distinctive beauty. Around the
			island there are many more villages worth visiting and many small islands of the
			same beauty and clean beaches, which you can visit by boat from Corfu. Opposite
			Corfu town there is Bido and Lasareto, northwest stands Erikousa, Mathraki,
			Othonoi and in the south the beautiful Paxi and Atnipaxi.
 
 Beaches
  BARBATI: Long stretch sandy beach, with good water sports facilities,
			umbrellas and taverns on the beach. AGIOS GEORGIOS: Majestic beach, 5km.
			long with good amenities. GLYFADA: A popular sandy beach near Pelekas,
			with excellent facilities  several hotels, taverns,
  beach bars and water
			sports. MIRTIOTISSA: Corfus most beautiful golden sandy beach
			sheltered by cliffs. Due to poor access Mirtiotissa beach is a quiet one. The
			Monastery you will see there is the Panagia Myrtidiotissa. SIDARI: A
			large white sandy beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. The cluster of
			rocks in the sea forms a canal called the Canal of Love. AGIOS
			STEFANOS: A wonderful long sandy beach, with crystal-green water and good
			taverns and facilities. ARRILAS: Beautiful beach, with 2.5 km of thin
			sand, protected from the wind by two small peninsulas. DASSIA: Long sandy
			beach with plenty of facilities and water sports. PALAIOKASTRITSA: Is one
			of the most famous and beautiful beaches on Corfu. The high, sudden cliffs, the
			rich vegetation and the string of beaches, with the Monastery of Paleokastritsa
			in the background, compose a truly sensational scene. KERASSIA: The best
			beach on the northeastern coast. Sand in the sea, clean waters and smooth
			boulders on the shore. 
 How to get there
  By air: from Athens Eleutherios Venizelos airport and also from Macedonia
			Airport at Thessaloniki.
 By car: from Athens, by ferry between Rion-Antirion and
			Igoumenitsa Corfu, or  by ferry from Patras to Corfu.
 By bus: from the KTEL station at Athens
