Sightseeing - Beaches - How to get there

Corfu town-Maps Of Greek Islands Corfu is the second largest island of the Eptanissa (the seven islands). Elegant architecture, sun beaches, nightlife and fine cuisine all contribute to attracting visitors from all over the world. You will find ancient Greek and Roman remains, old churches, museums, medieval villages and of course the Venetian forts. Its crystal waters, picturesque bays, the sandy or rocky beaches and the lush vegetation entice you to wander further. Corfu enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with summers that are hot and dry, while winters are mild and wet with the average temperature around 10 degrees Celsius. Spring comes to the island in February, and weather warm enough for swimming continues until early November. The exquisite island of ancient Pheakon entirely meets the desires and the needs of even the most demanding visitor. The island’s size permits its visitors to choose the most suitable spot for a holiday.

corfu greeceCorfu town - Sightseeing Corfu Town is a principal port and the largest town in the Ionian Islands. One of the most beautiful walks in the town is around the Esplanade, the second largest square in Europe, which is the hurt of Corfu town. The 3 major historical periods of Corfu can be distinguished: in the old fort the Venetian, in Liston arcade the French and in the Palace, the English. On the upper side of Esplanade stands a memorial to the British Lord High Commissioner Sir Thomas Maitland, built in 1816 in the shape of a circular building with Ionian columns. The statue of John Capodistrias (the first president of Greece) stands near the Maitland’s monument and right in front of the building where the Ionian Academy was housed. Opposite the Liston is the Old Fortress, the best known of the Venetian citadels. At the northern end of Esplanade stands the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, one of the most elegant buildings in Corfu. Take some time to explore the island; the scenery that any destination offers will amaze you.
Kanoni: A small peninsula in front of the lagoon of Halikiopoulou and the airport. You can enjoy the unique view that lies in front of you.
Pontikonissi:
The emblem of Corfu, the island of the Dead where church of Pantokratora built on 11th or pontikonisi corfu beach 12th century is situated.
Mon Repos:
The summer residence of the High Commissioner Sir Frederic Adam and later of the Greek royal family.
Benitses:
is a busy fishing village with long beaches, tourist shops, restaurants and everything you could ask during your holidays. Don’t miss to see the ruins of the Roman baths with mosaic floors.
Palaiokastritsa: Second to Corfu Town, located in the west side of the island. Traditional places here the palace of King Alkinoos, father of Nausica. In Palaiokastrista there are five natural bays formed between the rocks and the twist and turn road. At the top of the hill you can see the monastery of the Panagia tis Paleokastritsas, from where the view is incredible. Pelekas: Built on the top of a hill, which is famous for its unique sunset. The painted houses in different colours give to the village a distinctive beauty. Around the island there are many more villages worth visiting and many small islands of the same beauty and clean beaches, which you can visit by boat from Corfu. Opposite Corfu town there is Bido and Lasareto, northwest stands Erikousa, Mathraki, Othonoi and in the south the beautiful Paxi and Atnipaxi.

BARBATI: Long stretch sandy beach, with good water sports facilities, umbrellas and taverns on the beach. AGIOS GEORGIOS: Majestic beach, 5km. long with good amenities. GLYFADA: A popular sandy beach near Pelekas, with excellent facilities – several hotels, taverns, corfu-beach-greek islands beach bars and water sports. MIRTIOTISSA: Corfu’s most beautiful golden sandy beach sheltered by cliffs. Due to poor access Mirtiotissa beach is a quiet one. The Monastery you will see there is the Panagia Myrtidiotissa. SIDARI: A large white sandy beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. The cluster of rocks in the sea forms a canal called the “Canal of Love”. AGIOS STEFANOS: A wonderful long sandy beach, with crystal-green water and good taverns and facilities. ARRILAS: Beautiful beach, with 2.5 km of thin sand, protected from the wind by two small peninsulas. DASSIA: Long sandy beach with plenty of facilities and water sports. PALAIOKASTRITSA: Is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches on Corfu. The high, sudden cliffs, the rich vegetation and the string of beaches, with the Monastery of Paleokastritsa in the background, compose a truly sensational scene. KERASSIA: The best beach on the northeastern coast. Sand in the sea, clean waters and smooth boulders on the shore.
