City:(Nafplio) Nafplio, Words Cannot Describe ItOne of Greece’s prettiest towns, Nafplio was the first capital of Greece after independence. Narrow streets, neoclassical mansions and Venetian houses are what characterizes Nafplio, along with its three fortresses: Palamidi Fortress with the supposedly 999 steps that lead to its entrance, Akronafplia fortress, the oldest of the three, and Bourtzi. Out of Nafplio’s four museums, make sure you visit the Komboloi one that is more like a shop that sells a wide range of the traditional Greek komboloi (worry beads). The ruins of ancient Tiryns are the one thing you should definitely witness though, an architectural achievement! Some of its walls are even 17km thick, giving a sense of paranoia. |
